The N3 network is the secure NHS National broadband network.  The high-speed network connects all NHS locations including hospitals, medical centres and GPs in England and Scotland.

The Information Governance Statement of Compliance (IGSoC) is the process by which organisations enter into an agreement with NHS Health and Social Care Information Centre (NHS HSCIC) for access to its services. It is in place to safeguard and preserve the integrity of those services and as such, every organisation that wants to directly access any NHS HSCIC service is required to complete the process.

The NHS Spine is a set of National services which is part of the NHS Care Records Service.  It supports the following:

  • The Personal Demographics Service (PDS) - stores demographic information about patients
  • Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) - enables prescribers to send prescriptions electonically to dispensers
  • Choose and Book (CaB) - electonic referral service for outpatient appointments
  • The Summary Care Record (SCR) - summary of patient’s clinical information
  • The Secondary Uses Service (SUS) - anonymised and pseudonymised data used to support research, planning and public health delivery
  • Child Protection - Information Sharing project (CP-IS) - indicates and unscheduled medical intervention
